On the eve of its release, Kanye West has revealed the final title of his seventh album—The Life of Pablo. The announcement comes after a series of scrapped titles including So Help Me God, Swish, and the controversial Waves.
It’s unclear who Pablo is, but it could be a reference to notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and/or Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. Kanye has left the title open for discussion, asking “Which one?” on the handwritten tracklisting.
‘Ye makes reference to the mysterious Pablo on “No More Parties in LA” featuring Kendrick Lamar.
“I feel like Pablo when I’m working on my shoes,” he raps. “I feel like Pablo when I see me on the news / I feel like Pablo when I’m workin’ on my house.”
Earlier in the week, he asked fans to guess what the acronym T.L.O.P. stands for. Whoever guessed correctly would receive tickets to the Yeezy Season 3 launch event and a pair of Yeezys.
Along with the title, he has revealed the final tracklisting (sans features). The 10 tracks include the Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Real Friends,” “Wolves” featuring Sia and Vic Mensa, and “Fade” with Ty Dolla $ign and Post Malone. Noticeably absent from the new tracklisting is “No More Parties in LA,” which may have been renamed.
Kanye has called the album “one of the greatest albums,” while G.O.O.D. Music president Pusha T declared it his best work yet.
In less than 24 hours, Kanye will premiere the follow-up to 2013’s Yeezus during the star-studded Yeezy Season 3 show at Madison Square Garden in New York. The event will be broadcast live at select theaters worldwide and streamed via TIDAL.
